$5,000 Grant

Improving the green infrastructure features along the north and south sides of I-70 in Globeville, targeting over ¼ acre of contaminated, unused planting beds and benefiting the 3,700 residents within a 10-minute walk.

Green Dot Coalition

The I-70 green infrastructure project includes the installation of green infrastructure features along the north and south sides of I-70 in Globeville, just east of where I-70 and Interstate 25 intersect. This section of I-70 corridor has large, existing permanent planting beds installed decades ago by Colorado Department of Transportation that traverse 10 city blocks (Lincoln St. to Pearl St. along 46th) on both the north and south side of the highway . These beds, which total over ¼ acre in total area, have been unused for over a decade and are holding semi-polluted soil and are a target for illegal dumping and garbage. There are almost 3,700 residents of Globeville located within a 10-minute walk that would benefit from this I-70 Corridor project.

This request would support a critical next step and act as momentum-sustaining bridge funding, as partners work to secure the remaining capital funding needed for the full project materials. With this request, we would be able to complete the soil remediation and ground cover mulching on the entire north side of the highway, where irrigation repairs are currently taking place. The mulching preparation would ready the beds for immediate planting when additional capital funds are secured, hopefully in fall of 2025. This would keep this long-overdue project on track and continue to meet commitments to the neighbors who have contributed ideas and time to the visioning of this project for the past several years.
