$3,000 Grant

A photo book inspired by the Images of America series, documenting GES's people, places, and spirit to preserve cultural memory and foster community ownership of history.

Untold Stories: A Community History of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea

By Ernesto B. Vigil

This grant will support Mr. Vigil in curating a high-quality photo book, styled after the Images of America series, that documents the people, places, struggles, and spirit of GES. He will collaborate with 3–5 local residents to sift through archives, identify stories, and ensure the final product reflects community voices.

Additionally, Mr. Vigil will record oral histories that accompany key photographs, offering deeper context and reflections. These recordings will be archived online for public access—educational, engaging, and free.

This project will:

- Preserve critical cultural memory while Mr. Vigil is still able to guide the work.

- Build community ownership of history through participatory curation.

- Support future land reclamation and justice initiatives by rooting today’s work in ancestral knowledge.

- Create a fundraising tool: all proceeds from book sales will support grassroots organizing and healing efforts in GES.
