Providing a wellness summit that encompasses the four manifestations of indigenous health — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual and the four elements of the universe—fire, earth, air and water.
Xocotlhuetzi Pahtia: Falling of the Fruit Healing Summit
Our project, Xocotlhuetzi Pahtia: Falling of the Fruit Healing Summit, is based on traditional applications of health and wellbeing encompasses the four manifestations of indigenous health- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual- and the four elements of the universe- fire, earth, air and water- in all forms. Together these manifestations and elements define indigenous cultural medicine, because all things exist within the living ecosystems including humanity. We ourselves are a part of the ecosystem, not simply observers or separate from it.
This healing summit shares indigenous modes of self and community care rooted in our ancient understandings and ancestral knowledge of the Earth. This unveils our symbiotic relationship within our ecosystems. Additionally, through Danza Azteca we utilize the concepts of complete motion of the body and the full circulation of the blood to accentuate movement as an indigenous healing source. The creation of a communal “forma”- a sacred image using flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits- allows for a tangible connection to our ecosystems further providing a healing experience through the human senses.
Our objective is to offer a variety of tools, knowledge and applications that people can take to their homes and communities. This is why our healing summit features offerings from healers and healer groups as well as healing activities throughout the day, so there is a wide range of accessibility for our greater GES community to fully participate. By making these healing offerings and rituals open to all people, and based specifically in the GES community, invites people from across generations, race, class, etc., to be empowered and reclaim the traditional culture that was and is intentionally disappeared from us through the lasting effects of Colonization. While our healing summit is a single day event, the memory of the experience lives within the mind, spirit, heart and body of the people who participate. Therefore, we see this day as an invitation to lifelong learning, healing and connection.
